Network Security for Startups// TECH 460

Bill Totman, Security Solutions Engineer, CipherTechs

Monday, July 11th from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Every worry about any of the following:

  • Viruses and malware?
  • Application vurnerabilities?
  • Protecting Intellectual Property?
  • Hackers?
  • Which operating system is the most secure?
  • Are there free alternatives to pricey security solutions?
  • Have I done enough to protect my computer systems?

No practical IT security solution is static: software changes, threats change, and methods of attacks change. But, with a solid plan of approach to IT security you can be on your best defense for your dollar. The goal of this class to increase your peace of mind by making you aware of current IT security problems, how to plan for those problems, inform you of resources for implementing your plan, and what to do should there be a compromise in the implementation of your plan.

Bill Totman is a Security Solutions Engineer at Manhattan-based CipherTechs, Inc where he helps recommend the best security solutions per client needs, provide security design solutions, and security product implementation. His security expertise was developed on the job with various IT companies which landed him at Check Point Software, the top enterprise firewall company in the world. While at Check Point, Bill worked on was able to move into the kernel division of the escalation team.

Bill is currently working on an extensive security compliance project with a major medical facility in Manhattan. He is also active in the New York City BSD User Group, NYCBUG. When Bill isn't thinking about IT he is thinking of ways to grow the company he works for.
